Mary A. Dumlao, MA, LCPC, is a licensed clinical professional counselor at Ways to Wellness MD, specializing in medical psychotherapy. She has 30 years of counseling experience, serving in a variety of patient settings including inpatient adult psychiatric, outpatient rehabilitation, private psychological medical practice and integrative health clinics.
Mary uses a combination of approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Emotional Freedom Technique, cognitive behavioral therapy and others, to help clients explore how thoughts, emotions and behaviors affect their health and healing. She also teaches individuals how to use the power of their mind to increase healing, manage pain and adjust to medical illness or physical limitations. In addition, Mary assists clients in overcoming past psychological trauma that is interfering with mental and emotional healing.
Mary received her graduate degree in psychology from the University of West Georgia (formerly West Georgia College) and an undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University, both located in Macomb, Illinois.
Mary is a member of the Illinois Counseling Association, Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association, and co-chair of the Medical Issues Special Interest Group for the EMDR International Association in the United States. She has lectured extensively throughout the Chicago area on issues related to mental health, rehabilitation and the role of emotions in healing.
